McConnell Jewelry Designs
Lisa started young as a devotee of fashion, drawing clothing designs and jewelry as a youngster and starting summer jobs early to support her passion for fashion. After graduating
from Shippensburg University, she entered the world of fashion, working for various companies in large metropolitan centers. After years of being on the front lines of clothing merchandising, Lisa moved into the operations side of the business. She then left fashion altogether, feeding her passion occasionally at art and craft shows, watching artists’ creations and dreaming, but missing those opportunities to be creative.
Years later, after one of her favorite earrings broke and her husband, (the real MacGyver without all of the action hero stuff), suggested jewelry glue, the one type of glue he did not own, she headed to a craft store. On the way to the register with her glue she was intrigued by magazines with instructions on creating jewelry with wire.
After research, many classes and lots of experimentation, Lisa found that her favorite mix of materials was leather and gemstones. She decided to submit photos of some of her work for the Mt. Gretna Outdoor Art Show in 2012 and when she was juried into the show, she never looked back.
My designs are inspired foremost by my love of the colors and patterns of all gemstones, but also by the majesty of nature, form and function of architecture and the shapes and colors of everyday life. I love bold, colorful, designs with the added comfort of leather or fabric, as the chain or base of the piece. Soft leather and fabric also make gemstone jewelry an affordable luxury.
