J. Bee’s Pressed Flower Pictures
Judy grew up in Harrisburg and is a self-taught crafter whose Pressed Flower Pictures are currently showing in several galleries and gift shops in central PA as well as area arts and crafts shows. She is a member of the Perry County Council of the Arts and a charter member of the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
I made my first Pressed Flower Picture for my mother-in-law in 1989. When she passed away in 2005, I was able to give the picture of yarrow a new home on my bedroom wall. In early 2013, I thought that since it had held up very well, and I loved the look and the process, I would make more.
The notion that a bit of the natural beauty the Lord has graced us with can be preserved and displayed in a home to be enjoyed for years, keeps me on the lookout for flowers blooming along our country roads and in my own yard. I love working with the colors and textures of nature’s blooms and a variety of background papers to coordinate them into a pleasant picture. After picking and pressing the flowers, I dry them in silica gel. I’m eager to learn new techniques to preserve, arrange, and display my one-of-a-kind pictures.
